A small film from September 2009 when my wife and I travelled on the Buses in Peru. We travelled with Oltursa and Cruz del Sur, which are probably the two best companies (as far as safety and service goes). They run routes all over the place, which for foreign tourists are relatively cheap. The first class cabins have large reclining seats that are really comfy, airplane stlye toilet (first class has its own – only 9 first class passengers so its ok!) They play movies, a hostess who will bring you food and drinks (we even got a cocktail on one trip!). Cruz del Sur even play bingo! (so learn your Spanish numbers!) We went from Lima to Mancora, a beach town popular with surfers in the North of Peru. It took about 18 hours! Then we went back to Lima, and then down south to Arequipa which is another 14 hours! The buses are very good quality, the service is great and I would recommend it as a way of seeing remote places in Peru close up. The mountain routes can be a little hairy, but they have two drivers doing shifts so they don’t get tired, they have double front wheels for safety and also GPS so they are being tracked by a control room who will know if they unexpectedly stop.
